Calcium ppm from source = Product mg/L × (Calcium % ÷ 100) × (Purity % ÷ 100)

Elemental calcium grams = Final calcium ppm × Reservoir liters ÷ 1000
5) Product mass required to close a calcium deficit

1) What does calcium ppm mean in gardening?

It is the concentration of elemental calcium in your final solution. In dilute water-based mixes, ppm is treated approximately the same as mg/L for practical feeding calculations.

2) Which calcium percentage should I enter?

Enter the elemental calcium percentage printed on the fertilizer label or product specification sheet. Do not enter total salt percentage unless it specifically states elemental calcium.

3) Why does purity matter?

Purity adjusts the labeled material for real usable content. Lower purity means more inert material, so the same product dose contributes less actual calcium to the tank.

4) Is ppm always equal to mg/L?

For dilute nutrient solutions, gardeners usually treat 1 ppm as 1 mg/L. That approximation works well for routine mixing, monitoring, and target comparisons.

5) Should I include calcium from my water source?

Yes. Water can already carry meaningful calcium. Ignoring it may push your final recipe above target and reduce control over nutrient balance.

6) Why is my result above target?

Your water calcium, product doses, calcium percentages, or purity settings may already exceed the desired level. Reduce one or more inputs and recalculate.

7) Can I use this for foliar mixes?

Yes, but verify label safety, crop sensitivity, and spray compatibility first. Foliar applications often require lower concentrations than root-zone feeding programs.

8) Does this replace a lab or water report?

No. It is a planning and mixing tool. Laboratory analysis and water testing remain the best way to confirm actual solution chemistry and irrigation quality.
