Tile Adhesive Calculator

Measure area, tile count, bag needs, and wastage. Compare manual thickness and notch based assumptions. Build cleaner orders with fewer shortages and site delays.

Calculator Inputs

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the surface length and width in meters.
  2. Add any deductions for doors, windows, or excluded zones.
  3. Enter tile dimensions and your expected joint width.
  4. Choose manual thickness or let the trowel notch estimate thickness.
  5. Set the adhesive consumption rate from your product sheet.
  6. Enter bag size, waste percentage, and optional bag cost.
  7. Submit the form to see adhesive kilograms, bags, tiles, and estimated cost.

Formula Used

1. Gross Area

Gross Area = Surface Length × Surface Width

2. Net Area

Net Area = Gross Area − Deduction Area

3. Tile Module Area

Tile Module Area = ((Tile Length + Joint Width) ÷ 1000) × ((Tile Width + Joint Width) ÷ 1000)

4. Exact Tile Count

Exact Tile Count = Net Area ÷ Tile Module Area

5. Base Adhesive

Base Adhesive kg = Net Area × Effective Thickness × Coverage Rate

6. Waste Adjusted Adhesive

Adjusted Adhesive kg = Base Adhesive × (1 + Waste Percentage ÷ 100)

7. Bags Needed

Bags Needed = Ceiling(Adjusted Adhesive kg ÷ Bag Size)

Example Data Table

Surface Net Area Tile Size Thickness Waste Total Adhesive Bags Tiles
Floor 23.00 m² 600 × 600 mm 5 mm 10% 202.40 kg 11 70
Wall 14.50 m² 300 × 600 mm 4 mm 8% 100.22 kg 6 84
Floor 36.00 m² 800 × 800 mm 6 mm 12% 387.07 kg 20 56

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates adhesive kilograms, bag quantity, ordered weight, tile quantity, waste allowance, and optional material cost for floor or wall tiling work.

2. Why is coverage rate important?

Coverage rate connects thickness and area to adhesive mass. Product sheets often list this value, and using the right number improves planning accuracy.

3. Should I use manual thickness or notch mode?

Use manual thickness when your installer or product sheet specifies an exact bed depth. Use notch mode when you want a quick estimate from trowel size.

4. Does joint width change adhesive quantity?

Joint width mainly affects tile count because it changes module coverage. Adhesive quantity depends more on area, bed thickness, and product consumption rate.

5. Why add waste percentage?

Waste helps cover cutting losses, uneven substrates, small spills, and ordering buffer. Many projects use five to fifteen percent, depending on conditions.

6. Can I use this for wall tiles?

Yes. Select wall as the surface type, then enter your dimensions, tile size, thickness approach, and product rate to get a planning estimate.

7. Is the recommended notch exact?

No. It is a simple planning suggestion based on tile size. Always confirm final trowel choice with installer practice and adhesive manufacturer guidance.

8. Does this replace the product datasheet?

No. It supports estimating and ordering. Final coverage, open time, substrate prep, and minimum bed requirements should always follow the actual product datasheet.
