Formula Used
Line Base Cost = Quantity × Unit Price
Item Discount Value = Line Base Cost × (Item Discount % ÷ 100)
Line Total = Line Base Cost − Item Discount Value
Subtotal After Item Discounts = Sum of all line totals
Loyalty Discount Value = Subtotal After Item Discounts × (Loyalty % ÷ 100)
Pre-Tax Total = Subtotal After Item Discounts − Loyalty Discount − Coupon + Bag/Delivery Fee
Taxable Base = Taxable line totals minus the proportional share of global discounts
Tax Amount = Taxable Base × (Sales Tax % ÷ 100)
Grand Total = Pre-Tax Total + Tax Amount
Budget Difference = Budget − Grand Total
Cost Per Person = Grand Total ÷ Household Size
Monthly Estimate = Grand Total × Trips Per Month
Unit Cost = Unit Price ÷ Unit Size

FAQs
1) What does this grocery calculator estimate?
It estimates line totals, subtotal, item discounts, loyalty savings, coupon impact, tax, fees, final total, budget difference, cost per person, and monthly spending. It also groups spending by category for a quick visual review.
2) Can I compare multiple stores?
Yes. Each item row includes a store field, so you can enter products from different shops and inspect where the most money is going. This makes store comparison much easier during planning.
3) How are discounts handled?
The calculator applies item-level discounts first. Then it applies the loyalty discount and coupon amount to the basket. Taxes are calculated from the taxable portion after those global discounts are proportionally distributed.
4) Why is taxable base adjusted proportionally?
A coupon or loyalty discount usually lowers the effective taxable amount for qualifying goods. Proportional allocation keeps the estimate balanced when your basket contains both taxable and non-taxable items.
5) What is the unit cost field for?
Unit cost helps compare package value. For example, two cereal boxes may have different prices and sizes. Dividing price by size shows which option is cheaper per gram, liter, pound, or item.
6) Can I use this for weekly and monthly planning?
Yes. Enter your usual trips per month to convert one shopping trip into a monthly estimate. This is useful for home budgeting, shared households, meal planning, and inflation tracking.
7) Does the calculator work for household goods too?
Yes. You can add cleaning products, paper goods, toiletries, and other supplies. Mark taxable items correctly so the final estimate better matches real checkout totals.
8) When should I export CSV or PDF?
Export CSV when you want spreadsheet analysis or long-term tracking. Export PDF when you need a shareable summary for family, shopping coordination, expense files, or quick print-ready budgeting records.
