Formula Used

This calculator estimates project PPE spending by combining fixed worker kits, harness allocation, monthly consumables, replacement allowance, reserve stock, and tax.

Project months
months = project_days ÷ workdays_per_month
Fixed kit cost
fixed_kit_cost = workers × (helmet + vest + eyewear + boots + respirator + hearing + training + miscellaneous)
Harness allocation cost
harness_cost_total = workers × (harness_users_percent ÷ 100) × harness_cost
Consumable cost
consumable_cost = workers × months × ((glove_pair_cost × glove_pairs_per_month) + (filter_cost × filter_sets_per_month))
Replacement allowance
replacement_allowance = (fixed_kit_cost + harness_cost_total + consumable_cost) × replacement_rate
Reserve stock and tax
reserve_stock = (base_subtotal + replacement_allowance) × reserve_stock_rate
tax = pretax_total × tax_rate
grand_total = pretax_total + tax

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the total number of workers on the project.

Example Data Table

Input Example Value Reason
Workers 25 Medium crew size for a site phase.
Project days 180 Represents a six to seven month schedule.
Helmet cost $18.00 Initial issue item per worker.
Boots cost $42.00 Higher-value fixed PPE item.
Glove pairs per month 6 Useful for frequent wear and replacement.
Reserve stock rate 10% Helps avoid shortages during urgent demand.

You can replace these sample values with your own site procurement assumptions.

FAQs

1. What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates total PPE spending for a construction project, including fixed kits, monthly consumables, replacement allowance, reserve stock, tax, and worker-level averages.

2. Why are consumables separated from fixed items?

Gloves and filter sets are replaced more often than helmets or boots. Separating them gives a more realistic monthly and full-project budget.

3. What is the replacement allowance?

It is a percentage added to cover damaged, lost, or unexpectedly worn PPE. This helps reduce budget shortfalls during active site work.

4. Why include reserve stock?

Reserve stock protects the project from shortages, urgent crew changes, supplier delays, and unplanned demand peaks on site.

5. Can I use this for any currency?

Yes. Enter all unit costs in the same currency. The output stays consistent as long as every input uses that same currency.

6. Does this replace a supplier quotation?

No. It is a planning tool. Final procurement decisions should still use supplier quotes, delivery terms, approved brands, and contract requirements.

7. Should tax include shipping and storage?

You may include those costs inside miscellaneous cost per worker or adjust the tax logic to match your purchasing process and local rules.

8. How can this help site managers?

It supports budgeting, tender planning, monthly forecasting, safety compliance reviews, and quick comparisons between crew sizes, durations, and replacement assumptions.
