Formula Used
1) Ounces per gallon from percent solution:
Ounces per gallon = (Percent solution ÷ 100) × 128
2) Total concentrate for tank:
Total concentrate (oz) = Tank gallons × Ounces per gallon
3) Water amount:
Water gallons = Tank volume − Concentrate gallons
4) Area conversion:
Area covered (acres) = Tank gallons ÷ Spray gallons per acre
5) Per-acre estimate:
Concentrate per acre (oz) = Total concentrate (oz) ÷ Acres covered
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your spray tank size in gallons.
- Select a preset label-style percent, a custom percent, or a direct ounces-per-gallon value.
- Add optional spray volume, area, and cost inputs for acre and budget estimates.
- Press Calculate Mix to display the results above the form.
- Review concentrate needed, water to add, per-acre estimate, and the graph.
- Export the results to CSV or PDF for job notes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the percent solution mean?
It is the fraction of concentrate in the final spray mix. A 1% solution means 1% concentrate and the remainder water by total finished volume.
Can I use ounces per gallon instead of percentages?
Yes. Switch to manual mode and enter the exact ounces per gallon from your label, supervisor, or agronomy plan. The calculator converts it to full tank totals.
Does this replace the product label?
No. It is only a math helper. Always follow the label attached to your container for legal rates, approved sites, surfactants, PPE, and spray restrictions.
Why is the per-acre result only an estimate?
Per-acre output depends on your spray gallons per acre and operating method. If those values change in the field, the equivalent acre rate changes too.
Can I use the calculator for backpack sprayers?
Yes. Enter the backpack tank size, then use either a labeled percent solution or a direct ounces-per-gallon amount for that application method.
Why does water volume differ slightly from tank size?
Because the concentrate itself occupies part of the final tank volume. The calculator subtracts concentrate volume so the finished mix remains at your target size.
Can I track job cost with this page?
Yes. Add a product price per gallon and optional water cost. The tool estimates the mix cost for each full tank.
What should I double-check before spraying?
Verify target site, weather, nozzle setup, calibration, PPE, buffer rules, drift control, and the exact label rate for the weeds and application method involved.
